Inspire Rotherham is the literacy campaign for Rotherham, with the vision to reach, educate, inspire, grow and nurture today’s generation to be tomorrow’s confident communicators
Rotherham has recognised that communication is a real priority as a lack of communication skills leads to inequalities in accessing services, health and work opportunities whilst also providing limited social experience. Therefore we are developing approaches to ensure families, practitioners, and people of all generations are able to access opportunities to develop communication skills in a way that is useful to them. Our themes of focus include:
- Family engagement
- Prevention and early intervention
- Reading for pleasure
- Raising aspirations
- Professional development of the wider workforce around the child
- Leadership
Within each of these focus areas we are developing approaches to ensure Rotherham people can access the best tools and services available to improve their communication skills and those of Rotherham’s children. One of the key commitments which we are currently supporting is the ‘Imagination Library’ which is a book gifting scheme, with support from the Dollywood Foundation, with a mission to ensure every child in Rotherham is able to create their own library of books, posting out a book per month to all under 5’s who register across Rotherham. Further to this is the support of the library services and of book gifting schemes, offered through the library services.
