One of the world’s greatest astronauts, Kenneth Ham, visited Rotherham on Tuesday 7th July 2009 to inspire a group of primary pupils and their families about science, technology and engineering in space travel and the importance of literacy and communication skills in helping them achieve their dreams.
The event was held at Clifton Community Arts School and involved over 100 families from the Clifton and Brinsworth areas of Rotherham.
Kenneth Ham is a NASA space shuttle pilot and ex-US Navy pilot with over 3,700 flight hours under his belt. Kenneth and his wife Michelle, who is a NASA training instructor, revealed details of many exciting projects, including one which will take humans back to the moon, Mars and other outer space destinations.
As well as learning about space travel and having the chance to ask questions of the astronaut, the young people also had the chance to make and fly their own rockets and work on Space Projects sponsored by Lego Education.
The event inspired young people and helped them to recognise the importance of literacy and communication, even in outer space!
