Inspire Rotherham Family Day

Over one thousand people attended the Inspire Rotherham Family Fun Day at Magna on the 3rd July 2010. There where lots of activities to take part in, you could have adventures with the Gruffalo, join Alice at the Mad Hatters Tea Party and even teach an alien all about football.

On arrival children where asked to take part in a treasure hunt to find the different pictures of spark characters around the big hall, once each child had completed the hunt they were awarded with a goodie Bag.

Inspire Rotherham Providers came and showcased all the fantastic activities they have been doing in Rotherham schools, Point Blank Theatre took children to Planet Story in their amazing Purple Pod where they met Captain Read and Private Page. Rotherham Parent Support Advisors, children and families decorated fairy cakes with facial expressions. The Early Years team provided activities for under 5’s which included using play dough, mark making and been able to experience being a farmer with the farm sets. The Family Learning Team demonstrated different activities for families to complete in their own homes.

The children and families where able to meet and read with three of the Rotherham Titans Rugby players, speak to Representatives from Rotherham United Community Trust and dress up in fabulous costumes and act out on our stage which had been provided by Blah, Blah, Blah Theatre Company. There where stalls from Philip Howard Books and Gemma Books for people to purchase reading materials. There where opportunities to join the Imagination Library, become a volunteer, record a podcast with Radiowaves (Link to Radiowaves) meet local author and Rotherham school teacher Pat Mills.

The WEA ran workshops and promoted their Poetry book which Rotherham people had written work for. Ray Hearne came along and read some poetry with some of the Rotherham writers.

Adults where given the chance to speak to RCAT and find out more from Rawmarsh & Me about the Children’s University coming to Rotherham.

Displays of fantastic work by Rotherham children and the Inspire Rotherham Providers where showcased at the event these included Peter Murray, Thorpe Hesley Junior School, Roughwood Primary School, Kilnhurst Primary School, Herringthorpe Junior School, Coleridge Primary School, GROW, SPACE and Quality Mark
