Good luck
Last year, Rotherham crowned 3 children from Rockingham J&I School as Rotherham’s first ever Poet Laureates. This year the award is coming back! We are looking for another group/ individual to be the champion of poetry and communication for Rotherham, and inspire others to tell and join in with poetry.
Markela Islami, William Richards and Connor Garbutt were crowned the winners of the competition at the Rotherham Book Awards ceremony in July 2010 and have been on a whirlwind journey to inspire others ever since.
As part of their prize, the laureates had the chance to take part in a filming experience at Rawmarsh CLC to re-create their own video version of their poem. Using green screen technology the winners recreated flying, disappearing and lightening scenes to add the WOW factor to their finished film. They have also been performing at events across the borough, including one with the Mayor, who was keen to meet the three Poet Laureates. Their video can be viewed on the Inspire Rotherham website (www.inspirerotherham.org) make sure you go online and take a look!
