Activities to do with your children
Word search
Give your child a new word each week which they must use as often as possible. You must acknowledge that you have heard or seen your child using the word. Reward your child for successfully completing the task at the end of the week. A reward could be something as little as watching a DVD together with some treats or reading a book together and making up a different ending.
Treasure Hunts
Treasure Hunts are good fun and will keep children amused for hours. You could make a themed Treasure Hunt to use for Halloween or Christmas. All you need to do is make some clues and hide them around your home or garden for the children to follow; put a prize at the end of the hunt such as a book relating to the theme of the Treasure Hunt.
Nature Trail
Why don’t you and your children get your wellingtons on, your coat and gloves and take a pen and pad outside into your garden. Have a look for all the mini beasts and animals that are living in your garden. Go behind your shed and poke around in all those damp and dark places; you will find all sorts of creatures. You can then either draw them or write about your adventures, you could even develop a scrap book on all the different creatures that live in your garden.
Idea!! Why not get a clean empty jam jar and use it as a bug catcher, this will give the children the opportunity to see bugs from a 360 degrees angle.
